On the 12 of November 2011 Eddi Reader will be playing at the Queens Hall In Edinburgh on Clerk Street. For those of you who have never heard of her, Eddi Reader, the daughter Welder and the eldest of seven children, was born in Glasgow and spent her early life living in one of the slums of the city. She began to play the guitar at the age of ten and started her busking career in Glasgow and later Edinburgh.
She is a national treasure and it is hard to imagine that she was once a busker on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall street. For those of you who are old enough to remember, she was once the lead singer and songwriter of Fairground Attraction.
Another worthwhile event to look forward to this November is the Royal Scottish Academy’s Open Art Exhibition. This is a very popular event which is held in Edinburgh every year. The exhibition showcases hundreds of small scale contemporary artworks from all over Scotland. Most of the work displayed is affordable, so if you are into the arts or want to start collecting some, then this event will be a good place to start and you will have more than enough to choose and buy. In fact you might be able to establish preliminary relationships with some of the artists for possible future purchases. The exhibition begins on the 12 of November and ends on the 18th of December. The Royal Scottish Academy is based at The Mound in Edinburgh.
If you want to visit the city during the exhibition then the Hilton Hotel Edinburgh Scotland is a brilliant place to stay. It is not far from a lot of the attractions the city can offer.
For something different and in line with the approaching festive season, then why not try to see We Will Rock You? The musical which has been in showing in London for a while now arrives at the Edinburgh Playhouse on the 29th of December and the last show will be held there on the 7th of December. The show is a breath of fresh air compared to the age-old carols and pantomime. It is directed by Ben Elton and supervised by Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor. This futuristic musical is funny and crafted around twenty four of Queen’s most well-known hits. Any luxury Edinburgh hotel will do if you cannot stay at the Hilton.
