Elvis Lives on in Dusseldorf

German fans of Elvis Presley no longer have to travel to Graceland to feel the true spirit of ‘The King’. That’s because Dusseldorf is now home to the biggest museum solely dedicated to Elvis Presley outside of the United States.

Normally known as a centre for business and trade, the city may well be going up a notch or two on the rock ‘n roll cool barometer with an influx of fans of the man from Memphis. Fortunately, the city has an excellent infrastructure in place to deal with extra tourists and plenty of accommodation. Dusseldorf trade show hotels are extremely welcoming to all types of people and not just the men in suits!

You may be wondering why Dusseldorf has been chosen as the location for a new Elvis museum. Between 1958 to 1960, Elvis famously spent 17 months in Germany whilst he was stationed at an American army base as part of his national service. The new Elvis museum exhibits the actual guitar that he bought whilst he was in the country. Elvis didn’t want to lose his playing skills whilst in the army, so he modified his acoustic guitar into a semi-acoustic. This allowed him to hook up to a small amplifier whilst practicing his musical work.

Go to the museum and you can also see other items used by Elvis throughout his lifetime including stage outfits, letters, jewelry and song lyrics. True fans of Elvis may be particularly excited to view his mother’s diary which was written during the year of his birth in 1935, or the red bicycle that he owned as a teenager.

For those that want a little less conversation you could always dance your shoes off at a rocking tribute Elvis gig after visiting the museum, before booking into a Dusseldorf trade show hotel to ensure a good night’s sleep after a brilliant night out.
