Glasgow at Christmas

Every year, the city of Glasgow comes to life with one of the finest displays of Christmas lights that you’re ever likely to see. The best way to enjoy this annual spectacle would be to check in to one of the many luxury Glasgow hotels, and spend a weekend exploring the many shops, bars and traditional markets of the city.

Boasting a long and fascinating history, the city of Glasgow is filled with a wealth of stunning attractions… from the massive science museum with its interactive displays, to the 13th century cathedral, and the Glasgow Necropolis – an ancient cemetery, containing in excess of 50,000 graves!

At Christmas though, prepare to see Glasgow as you’ve never seen it before. Most of the attractions are located around the central St. Enoch’s Square, and this is where you will see the most beautiful of the light displays. The annual Christmas market spreads from here into various other streets around the city centre, and features a cast array of different stalls, with traders appearing from all corners of the globe! From hand made Peruvian leather goods, to Scandinavian salamis, there really is a uniquely global feel to this colourful market.

When it comes to food, you’ll be spoilt for choice at the Glasgow Christmas Market. Wander through the food stalls and you’ll find hot German bratwursts, chocolate treats, seasonal soup, and drinks such as mulled wine and rich Bavarian beers!

The experience that many people have of this country will be from a trip to a country house hotel Scotland. Scotland is a great destination for getting back to nature, and offers some truly wonderful opportunities for outdoor pursuits. However, for a taste of true, contemporary Scottish culture, you really do need to visit one of the country’s lively cities… and nowhere does Christmas quite as well as Glasgow does!
